The walks described below are contained on the following Ordnance Survey Maps which can be purchased at most good retailers including W.H. Smiths and The Book Shop, both of which are in Malmesbury High Street:
O.S. Landranger 173 (1:50,000). This map is quite adequate for ‘landranging’ on foot, but is not ultimately (due to its scale) as useful as the Explorer for walking (see below). More suited to the cyclist as it is easy to handle.
O.S. Explorer 168 (1:25,000 scale). This is an ideal map for the walker as it shows all the extra details (such as field outlines) that may not be on the Landranger. Highly recommended for both the casual and serious walker.
The map images on this web site are shown with the kind permission of Ordnance Survey and each is annotated as follows:

There are five walks shown, which are:
1. WALK NUMBER 1 7.8 miles)
The longest of the five walks over the full route, although a number of shortcuts can be taken. A walk over varying terrain which comprises farm roads, tracks and footpaths, some of which are little used. An interesting walk partly along the River Avon that takes in Cole Park, Kingsmead Mill and bypasses Angrove Wood. The Saladin Public House in Little Somerford is a handy pit-stop for either lunch or just a drink.
2. WALK NUMBER 2 (6.2 miles)
The ‘Garsdon Loop’. Quiet roads for most of the way, the only (relatively) busy stretch is that between the village and Garsdon crossroads.
3. WALK NUMBER 3 (2.5 miles)
A short stroll on a bridle path to the east of the village. This walk can be VERY muddy at a wet time of the year.
4. WALK NUMBER 4 (5 miles)
A convoluted way to get to the Pub at Charlton! The route across Woodbridge Brook can be a little confusing and close attention to the map may be required. The short section of ‘main’ road out of Charlton (to the east) has no footpath and little verge so take care!
5. WALK NUMBER 5 (4.5 miles)
Across the fields to Malmesbury along the old ‘Monk’s Way’ and back via Milbourne. Various minor variations of the route are available, some being frequently used but not strictly footpaths.
